I Don't Know How to Say

I told The Boss my bar number on Tuesday. He still has not said anything about renegotiating my salary.

I did the math and figured I need about 61k/year to get by (after taxes). Using my rudimentary math skills, I determined that I need about 80k/annually. I feel this is pretty high.

I dunno how to go about this.

Please help.

  • Ok. you should get $85 plus a signing bonus. He know what he is paying for someone who just got their license.

  • I totally agree with Loony Tunes! $85K Plus a signing bonus.

However, he is waiting for you to bring it up. If you don't bring it up, he is not, and you won't get a raise. Do it professionally. Ask him for a special appointment. Get all of your statistics in order, then ask for the raise! You deserve it, and it is in order! But you have to ask for it. Nothing happens if you don't open your mouth! Which should be no problem for you :)

  • Prepare yourself, create a delivery. Explain to boss that your aware of the standards in the industry, and let him know that your are now ready and able to take on the new tasks that you are presumably able to do now that you have a bar number. Give him reasons, explain to him how energetic and excited you are to take on these new roles. Be ready to address rebuttals, such as your sick days, etc.
Make a point to talk to him on his time, make an appointment. Don't catch him when he's running out the door.
Most important, be confident. If you don't get behind what your saying, your boss isn't going to go for it.
    Your a lawyer, argue. :)

  • Lex I don't envy you having to ask Boss for more money. But you gotta do it. Bills gotta be paid. If he can't do it, he can't do it, but if pays Office Manager that much, he ought to pay you close to that much since you have a law license and all.

  • Tell him you got an offer from Big Law.

  • I'm not much help with getting raises. I'm under-payed myself.

I never do stuff like this, but I'm writing for help. There is a boy in a Georgia in prison for 10 years because he got a consensual BJ from a girl at a party in high school. You don't need to give money, just spread the word about this kid.

    ESPN is telling his story.

  • Arbusto, that is horrible. (but I did laugh) I read that article, and it is truely a sad story about justice gone wrong. That DA sucks! I printed it out and gave it to Son!
